The “40 Under 40” campaign now in its third year aims to reveal some of the standout talent in the Indian alternative investments industry across different verticals like fund management, advisory, operations, compliance, consulting, technology, marketing, product design and fund raising.

The first 2 editions of the “40 under 40” campaign were a huge success with more than 180+ nominations received during each year.
The nominees should exhibit identifiable accomplishment at a young age as well as promising future prospects. He / she should also be under the age of 40 as on May 1, 2020.
We are looking for the best and brightest of the Indian Alternative Investments community under the age of 40. If you know someone who is well-rounded and contributes to their industry and community, we would like you to introduce us.
The nominees will be considered by jury based on the following criteria:
Please nominate your pick of the most promising professional / influencer in the alternative investments industry by January 3rd, 2020 after which the nomination process will end and no further submissions will be considered. The nominees will be vetted by the IAAIF team and final selection will be made by the distinguished Jury for inclusion in a special report which will be released on January 29, 2020 during the 7th Indian Alternative Investments Summit in Mumbai.
Qualifications: The only requirement when nominating someone is that they must be under 40 years of age as of May 1, 2020 and must reside in India.
A person can also nominate himself/herself. The nominee will receive a questionnaire once the nomination period closes. Additionally, though not required, nominees will be encouraged to submit two letters of recommendation and a resume showing why they are deserving of this honor at the time the questionnaire is due.
Nomination Fee: Rs. 2360 (inclusive of GST)
Selection method: Winners will be chosen by an illustrious Jury. Candidates will be evaluated based on professional accomplishments, contribution, leadership, qualification and other exemplary qualities.
All 40 honorees will be recognized during the 7th Indian Alternative Investments Summit on January 29, 2020.

Sunil Singhania, CFA, is the Founder of Abakkus Asset Management, LLP, an India-focused Asset Management Company he established in 2018. Prior to this, in his role as Global Head – Equities at Reliance Capital Ltd., he oversaw equity assets and provided strategic inputs across Reliance Capital Group of companies including asset management, insurance, AIF and offshore assets. And as CIO – Equities, Singhania led Reliance Mutual Fund equity schemes to be rated amongst the best. Reliance Growth Fund grew over 100 times in less than 22 years under Singhania’s leadership. Furthermore, he led Reliance Nippon Life Asset Management Ltd.’s international efforts and was instrumental in launching India funds in Japan, South Korea, and the UK, besides managing mandates from institutional investors based in the US, Singapore, and other countries. Singhania was the Promoter of The Association of NSE Members of India; a body of stock brokers. He is also the first individual from India to be elected as a member of the CFA Institute Board of Governors and currently serves as the Chair of the Investment Committee and as a member of the Nominating Committee. He also sat on CFA Institute’s Standards of Practice Council for six years, and was the Founder of the Indian Association of Investment Professionals (now CFA Society India) and served as its President for eight years. Singhania graduated in commerce from the Bombay University and completed his Chartered Accountancy from the ICAI, Delhi with an all India rank. He has also earned the right to use the Chartered Financial Analyst designation, conferred by CFA Institute. Having travelled extensively across the world, Singhania has also attended many global investment conferences and seminars.
Avendus Capital Public Markets Alternate Strategies LLP
Vaibhav Sanghavi has an overall work experience of 17 years with deep domain expertise in hedge funds. He joined Avendus in 2016 and is currently the Co-CEO for Avendus Capital Public Markets Alternate Strategies LLP, based in Mumbai. As part of his role, he is the lead portfolio manager for all its funds and holds a track record of outperforming markets across cycles.
Prior to joining Avendus, Vaibhav worked with Ambit Investment Advisors as a Managing Director where he was responsible for driving their hedge fund business. During his eight-year stint with the firm, he successfully managed the largest onshore Indian hedge fund with an exemplary track record.
Before Ambit, he worked for 3 years with DSP Merrill Lynch’s strategic risk group and was responsible for managing their proprietary investments in equities amounting to USD 1 billion.
Vaibhav started his career in 2000 with HDFC Bank where he was part of the equities and private banking team. During his five-year tenure, he invested in equities that delivered returns higher than benchmarks every single year.
His expertise in generating risk-adjusted returns in equities across strategies has played a key role in Avendus being able to secure its position as the largest onshore hedge fund in India.
Vaibhav is a Chartered Accountant and has graduated from Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics, Mumbai.
A well-known media personality, Monika Halan’s goal is a fair marketplace for all participants in India’s retail financial sector. She is Consulting Editor with Mint, India’s second largest business daily. A Certified Financial Planner, she has a Masters in Economics from the Delhi School of Economics and a second Masters in Journalism Studies from College of Cardiff, University of Wales, UK. She has worked earlier across media organisations in India including Editing Outlook Money. She has run four successful TV series around personal finance advice in NDTV, Zee and Bloomberg India and is a regular speaker on financial literacy, regulation, inclusion and consumer issues in retail finance. She has public policy experience working with the Government of India as an advisor to the Swarup Committee in 2009. She has served as a member on the Ministry of Finance Committee on Incentives (Bose Committee), has been a member on the Sebi Mutual Fund Committee since 2010 and is a member on the Proxy Advisor Working Group constituted by Sebi in November 2018.
She was a member of the Task Force set up by the Government of India to put in place the Financial Redressal Agency. She was an expert invitee to a Ministry of Commerce Committee on the Service Price Index. She is the author of two published academic papers: (http://bit.ly/2towQ53) in Journal of Economic Policy Reform that estimates the loss to investors on mis-sold insurance policies, and a paper that maps mis-selling by banks in India (http://bit.ly/2uBtw5Y) in the Journal for Comparative Economics.

Shiv Sehgal is President and Co-Head of the Institutional Clients Group, Edelweiss Global Investment
Advisors. In this role, Shiv provides leadership to one of India’s largest equity franchises and is
responsible for the Capital Market businesses which includes Institutional Equities (covering sales,
research and trading) and Asset Services.
Shiv has worked in the investment management and financial services industry for close to two decades,
the majority of which has been in emerging market funds in the pan-Asia markets. Prior to his current
role, Shiv led the Goldman Sachs Institutional Sales Trading, Equity Capital Markets business in India,
responsible for the firm's franchise relationships. Shiv was also appointed to the Goldman Sachs India
board to oversee day to day operations and provide executive leadership on various firm committees.
Before joining Goldman Sachs, India, & NBS; Shiv was CEO of Artha Capital, Singapore.
Shiv has extensive experience of working in long-short emerging market hedge funds in Sydney and
Singapore. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst from the CFA Institute, USA and holds a Masters in
Banking and Finance from Griffith University, Brisbane.
